Mohsen Chosdeb, the
الأمن الداخلي سوريا

Internal security forces announced the arrest of Mohsen Chosdeb, known as the "Godfather of Reconciliations," in the town of Zakia in rural Damascus. He is accused of collaborating with Security Branch 227 and of involvement in ongoing measures of repression and violations targeting civilians and regime opponents in the region.

Chosdeb is widely recognized for his prominent role in the "reconciliation" files imposed by the regime on towns and villages in rural Damascus. He reportedly forced thousands of civilians and former fighters into coercive settlements under threats and security extortion, with testimonies confirming his involvement in handing over wanted individuals to security agencies—leading to their subsequent arrest or execution.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights emphasized that such arrests should not be mere security measures or acts of revenge, but should serve as a genuine entry point for transitional justice in Syria. Upholding justice reflects a commitment to uncovering the full truth and holding all those involved in crimes and violations accountable, regardless of their affiliations or previous positions.

The Observatory views transitional justice as a fundamental pillar for any peaceful process or sustainable political future in the country. Building a new Syria cannot be based on impunity or selective justice. Transparent procedures are essential to ensure victim redress, prevent the recurrence of crimes and violations, and lay the groundwork for a more just and transparent future.
